Kwara State Government Restates Commitment to Welfare of Workers

…as Joint Public Service Negotiating Council” (JNPSNC) trains state and national leaders on effective collective bargaining practices

Governor of Kwara State, Alhaji Abdulrasaq Abdulsalam has promised to continue to improve the standard of living and career fulfilment of workers in the Public Service of the State.

He made this promise on Wednesday while declaring open a three day National workshop on “Sustaining lndustrial Harmony through Effective Collective Bargaining Practices for National and State Leadership of joint Public Service Negotiating Council” (JNPSNC) which took place at the Michael lmoudu institute of Labour studies , Ilorin Kwara State.

The Governor expressed his confidence that Public Servants in the state are doing their best towards the implementation of his Policies and programmes hence, they must be motivated adequately.

The Governor who was represented by the State Head of Service Mrs Modupe Susan Oluwole at the Programme, promised promised to continue to partner the Micheal lmoudu Institute of Labour Studies to enable the institute continue to build capacity of Trade Unionists and workers in general so that they can discharge their duties effectively and efficiently.

Earlier, in an address of welcome, the Director General of the institute Comrade Isa Aremu, who was represented by Barrister Sola Iji, promised to work assiduously to uplift the standard of the Labour institute in order to enable it discharge its onerous philosophy to produce well refined Labour Leaders and public administrator to drive the nation’s Public Service.

He was confident that,with the institute attaining 40 years of it existence, it has been able to perform beyond expectations in all ramifications and solicit for patronage and synergy from all stakeholders so that we can all build first class Labour institute in Nigeria.

In his opening remarks, the National Chairman of joint Public Service Negotiating Council (JNPSNC) Comrade Benjamin Anthony welcomed all participants to the National workshop which he described as a watershed.

He said the leaders is trying to ensure that the purpose of collective bargaining practices is re-enacted to further deepen the expected synergy in the advancement of better welfare package for workers and humanity in general

Comrade Benjamin Anthony disclosed that Negotiating Council started in 1948 with withley Council and metamorphosed to joint Public Service Negotiating Council with statutory responsibllities of negotiating for the better welfare package for workers in the Public Service.

He said:”I pray that the essence of this National workshop remains with us; which is to create more robust and cordial relationship that will bring back the lost glory of integrity that always characterized honouring of collective bargaining agreement between Government and Labour sides during strategic collective bargaining negotiations in line with best world Labour practices” he submitted.

In his vote of thanks the National Secretary, joint Public Service Negotiating Council (JNPSNC) Comrade Bomoi Mohammed ibraheem appreciated all Government of participating States, Permanent Secretaries from various states, State Officers of joint Public Service Negotiating Council , management of Micheal lmoudu institute of Labour studies and all stakeholders that assisted in the seamless implementation of the National workshop, he further disclosed that another strategic meeting will hold soonest to mop up and collate challenges workers are facing in respective states across the federation in an attempt to find lasting solutions to the problems.

Participants across the states from both Government and Labour sides,as well as National Presidents and General Secretaries of Unions in the Public Service attended the National workshop which was organized by the National joint Public Service Negotiating Council (JNPSNC)in partnership with Michael lmoudu institute of Labour studies ( MINILS).
