By Hope-Feyisayo Temitope

The Kano State government is working towards the creation of a special court for the speedy dispensation of justice on gender-based violence and child rights abuse in the state.

This was hinted at by the state Chief Justice, Dije Aboki, on Thursday, at the second quarter National Executive Council pre-convention meeting, with the theme: “Ensuring access to justice for indigent women and children in Nigeria.” Of the International Federation of Women Lawyers Nigeria, in Kano.

Justice Aboki stressed that a special court was needed to address the emerging challenges of gender violence, rape and child abuse.

Aboki said the state was collaborating with the United Nations Children’s to ensure girls had access to quality education, as well as tackle gender-based violence and child abuse.

The Vice President of FIDA, Nigeria, Amina Abaji, said women in the association had become beacons of hope and sources of inspiration, noting that the gathering would pave the way for the development of justice, and the protection of women and children’s rights.

She celebrated Kano for joining the league of states that signed the Child Rights Act, signifying the efforts to strengthen their rights.
