INVEST IN SPORTS, EKITI MONARCH URGES FG

AS PROPHET OLU ALO ORGANIZES FOOTBALL COMPETITION TO DISCOVER TALENTS

Sport has been described  as one of the major sectors that could boost the economy of any nation and create opportunities for its youths if property invested in.

To this end, it is imperative for government at all levels to create an enabling environment for Nigerian youths choosing sports as career to thrive.

The Olojido of Ido-Faboro Ekiti, Oba Ayorinde Ilori-Faboro who made the call, said sports is now a big business through which youths can be developed and empowered for them to be self reliant.

Oba Ilori-Faboro spoke in Ido Ekiti in Ido-Osi local government area of Ekiti state, after the final match of maiden edition of the Prophet Sam Olu-Alo Foundation football competition between Unity FC and God Never Fails FC.

The weeklong football tournament was organized, to discover young talented footballers to be recruited into the newly formed Adamimogo football club owned by prophet Olu-Alo.

The monarch said, ” Involvement in sports will help engage and empower our youths if given the right environment to operate.

“People from Brazil, Argentina and other South American countries making wave in world football are not better than us. It is encouragement that these young footballers need which Olu-Alo has offered now.

“We need at least one stadium and sport centre, equipped with modern sporting facilities in all the sixteen local government areas of the state where the youths can train and participate in various sporting activities and games. This is what we want our government to do for us”.

Oba Faboro who noted that prophet has been of assistance to the community in so many ways over the years urged other sons and daughters of town home and abroad to emulate his good gesture by contributing their own quotas to the development of Ido Ekiti.

“This football competition is another feather to his cap. He has done a lot for the town. He has been empowering the youth, the poor, the aged with his resources every year. He also built a modern library and donated it to the town.

“I want to encourage others to help in lifting these young people and the town up. They should do same, it is not just football but every other activities”.

He advised the youths of the community to look beyond the boundaries and expand their horizons by moving out in search of opportunities that are available across the country.

The executive Chairman of Ido-Osi local government, Hon. Sola Ogunsina and a community leader, Hon. Afolabi Olurotimi who commended prophet Olu-Alo said he has been making life meaningful to the people and giving hope to the hopeless.

Ogunsina who noted that what Olu-Alo was doing is germane said government can only complement it.

The Council boss who urged the people not to leave everything to the government said, “For him to champion football talents hunting at the grassroots is commendable”.
