…says nurses deserves better welfare being the engine room of health sector
The chairman of the National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives Ekiti State Council, Comrade Kunle Oni has rejoiced with members of the union across the state for the celebration of this year’s International Nurses Day.
Every 12th of May is celebrated as International Nurses Day with the aim of acknowledging the role of nurses in saving lives.
The Theme for this year’s celebration is “OUR NURSES OUR FUTURE”
Addressing newsmen at NAF Conference Centre, Kado, Abuja during the flag off ceremony to commemorate the day, Comrade Oni who attended with the State PRO, Comrade Olaoluwa Odunayo rejoiced with nurses for the grace to witness the annual event.
According to Comrade Oni, the impact of nurses in the provision of health care in Ekiti State can not be quantified.
He described nurses as the engine room of the health sector hence he called on government to prioritize their welfare and attend to some of their needs which include provision of Social security, Address the issue of unsafe working environment, Payment of Hazard Allowance and full CONHESS for PHCDA Nurses.
The chairman who was not happy with the shortage of nurses appealed to Government to employ more qualified nurses.
Comrade Oni confirmed that nurses in the state are overworked as majority of the nurses employed by government have relocated to different greener pastures.
