INFORMATION COMMISSIONER URGES EKITI JOURNALISTS TO DIVERSIFY

…as Ekiti NUJ Chairman pays New Year visit to the commissioner

The Ekiti State for Commissioner for Information, Chief Taiwo Olatubosun has advised Journalists and the leadership of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ Ekiti State Council to come up with initiatives that would strengthen the capacity of the Union and attract the attention of the public positively.

Chief Olatubosun spoke during a chat with the Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Ekiti State Council, Comrade Kayode Babatuyi who paid him a New Year visit alongside few other members at his country home in Igbemo Ekiti.

According to the commissioner, journalists in the state must up their games and take advantage of the various opportunities in the social media in the practice of Journalism.

He noted that the era where politicians run after journalists had gone, saying many people now have access to communicate the heterogeneous audience through the social media.

Chief Olatubosun noted that in such a situation it is expected of the media and the practitioners to diversity and come up with modern initiatives that would make them relevant to the society and their services wanted at all cost.

Responding, Chairman NUJ, Ekiti State Council appreciated the commissioner for his support for NUJ in 2024 and promised that the media would continue to project the image of government to the world without compromise.

He said the conventional media is being confronted with serious challenges but promised to heed to his advise to make the profession better in Ekiti.

Highlight of the visit was the review of government activities in 2024 while both parties strategized on how to do better in 2025.
