The Resident Electoral Commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Ekiti State, Prof Ayobami Salami has expressed dissatisfaction over the low collection of Permanent Voter’s Card (PVC) in the state despite constant awareness programmes.
He said this on Wednesday during a sensitization programme by the Commission together with Civil Society Organizations (CSO) and Non-governmental Organizations (NGO) in the streets and markets of Ado-Ekiti.
The Ekiti INEC boss revealed that about 204,000 PVCs were yet to be collected out of the 988,000 registered voters in the state.
Prof Ayobami, who stated that INEC is doing everything within their power to make sure that the vote of the people count, warned that electorates who are yet to pick up their PVCs would not be allowed to vote during the 2023 general elections.
In his words: “It is disheartening to see that our people do not come out to collect their PVCs despite the sensitisation programmes we aired both on Radio and Television on the need to have them.
“So, we are going to markets, to streets and other places to sensitise our people on the need to collect their PVCs because without it, they can’t vote.
“I am assuring you that INEC will do everything in our capacity to make your votes count and it will.”
