…as Monarch wants festival to become world class celebration
The Apeju of Ilupeju Ekiti, HRM, Oba David Sunday Awe Akingbade1, has called on all sons and daughters of Ilupeju Ekiti to promote Ilupeju culture and traditions.
He sought the cooperation and support of Ilupeju Indigenes to make new yam festival a world class festival, saying it is a big festival that unite everybody.
Oba Akingbade made the call during this year’s new yam festival at Menara Market Square, Ilupeju Ekiti on Sunday.
He appreciated the concerted effort of Indigenes to the development of the town. He offered prayers for them and the rapid development of the town.
X-raying the importance of the festival, the monarch reiterated the spiritual connectivity between kings and yam which according to him, symbolised relief, harvest and peace, adding that except Apeju offers prayers and eat yam no one can bring it to market .
While commending indigenes of Ilupeju Ekiti for their unflinching support for the growth and development of the town, the monarch prayed God to grant them sound health, long life and promotion in their various endeavors.
Residents of Ilupeju Ekiti and outsiders are now permitted to sell yams in Menara Market. The monarch stated.
Speaking in the same vein, the second in command to Apeju of Ilupeju Ekiti, His Highness, High Chief Sunday Ogunsola applauded the zeal of Ilupeju sons and daughters to wards development of the town. He prayed God to spare them to celebrate many years on earth.
The Custodian of the market, Elegbe, Chief Michael Alonge led prayers for the new yam festival. He stressed that the festival always bring Development to the town .While calling on well meaning indigenes of the town to promote the festival.
High point of the festival was that Apeju, his second in command, chiefs , all age grades and Indigenes danced from the point of prayers at market square through, iyana- ire to Apeju’s palace where subjects were entertained with YAM AND GARDEN EGG WITH PALM WINE.
