…holds Unity Rally in Ikere Ekiti
The governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in Ekiti State (PDP), Dr. Wole Oluyede, has declared himself the most prepared and qualified contender for the Ekiti governorship race, insisting he is “the best person for the job” ahead of the June 2026 election.
Speaking to Journalists after a grand reception by supporters in his hometown,Ikere-Ekiti, Oluyede described the turnout as both surprising and reassuring, saying it reflected a growing desire for change across the state.
“It is one of the best surprises I’ve ever had, It assures me that Ekiti people are ready for a good change. They are yearning for it.”
Taking a critical stance on the current administration, Oluyede argued that Ekiti State has regressed in key areas including infrastructure, healthcare, education, and economic development.
“On every index, Ekiti is not better than it was a few years ago, it is worse, the roads are worse, unemployment is higher, people are less safe and less healthy.”
He likened the performance of the incumbent government to that of a failing student. “If this were a class, he has failed and would have to repeat it. But we are not looking for failure, we are looking for success.”
Central to Oluyede’s message was his insistence that he stands out among contenders due to his long-term preparation and policy depth.
“In the history of Ekiti State, nobody has prepared for this role more than I have. I have the qualifications, the commitment, and I have made the sacrifices. I am the best person for the job.”
He noted that he had developed policy frameworks for the state over a decade ago, adding that many of the issues he identified then, particularly in education and healthcare, remain unresolved.
“We need to invest in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Our schools are not meeting global standards. Our hospitals are not properly funded. There is no clear plan to create wealth,” he said.
Oluyede distanced himself from national political distractions, stressing that his ambition is centered solely on Ekiti.
“My politics is local, I am focused on becoming the governor of Ekiti State and delivering for the people.”
He also called on voters to reject inducement and vote based on conscience.
“Vote for your future and your children’s future. Nobody can buy your conscience, and you should not sell it cheap,” he urged.
With campaigns set to intensify in early April, Oluyede promised a governance style that would be both visible and impactful.
“Give me four years, and I will deliver, Ekiti people will see it and feel it,” he said.
Also Speaking, the Ekiti PDP Chairman, Rt. Hon. Tunji Odeyemi, expressed strong confidence in the party’s chances, describing the candidate as “the choice of the people” and declaring the party “battle ready” for the election.
“With all parameters available, it is a sure bet that Oluyede will win. He is not just the PDP candidate, he is the candidate of the people.”
Addressing internal party divisions, the chairman dismissed dissenting factions and reaffirmed the legitimacy of Oluyede’s candidacy, adding that any disputes would ultimately be resolved by the courts.
