NSCDC Arrests Suspect Over 45,000 Litres of Adulterated Fuel, Assault on Personnel in Anambra

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Anambra State Command, has arrested a suspect identified as Sunday Ukeh over the alleged possession of a truck conveying 45,000 litres of suspected adulterated Premium Motor Spirit.

The suspect was also accused of assaulting NSCDC personnel during the operation.

In a statement issued on Monday, the Head of Media and Tactical Operations of the NSCDC Anambra State Command, Edwin Okadigbo, said the suspect and the truck were intercepted on Sunday at Amansea along the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway in Awka by the Command’s Anti-Vandalism Squad during a proactive intelligence-led operation.

Okadigbo said the suspect, who hails from Odume in Awgu Local Government Area of Enugu State, allegedly attempted to assault NSCDC personnel while resisting arrest.

According to the statement, the Anti-Vandalism Squad, led by CSC Nwosu Christian, intercepted the truck at about 11am on Sunday, July 26, 2026, while carrying out a proactive, intelligence-driven operation. The team stopped the vehicle at Amansea, along the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway in Awka, over suspicions that it was conveying adulterated petroleum products.

The statement further explained that when the suspect, Sunday Ukeh, was flagged down on reasonable suspicion of involvement in adulterated fuel racketeering, he refused to stop and instead attempted to drive through the personnel, nearly running over some of them. A chase followed, and he was eventually intercepted at the Military Checkpoint in Amansea, where he attempted to assault one of the Anti-Vandalism officers.

He was subsequently overpowered and taken into custody. Preliminary findings reportedly revealed several inconsistencies in the waybill he presented, and both the truck and its contents have since been impounded pending further investigation.

The NSCDC stated that the command would not condone any form of lawlessness or attacks on its personnel in the course of their lawful duties, warning that anyone found attacking officers on duty would face the full weight of the law.

The statement added that the State Commandant commended the Anti-Vandalism Squad for their vigilance and professionalism, and reaffirmed the command’s commitment to sustaining the fight against illegal activities in Anambra State’s petroleum sector.
