GRM/GBV: AGILE TRAINS FOCAL PERSONS ACROSS SECONDARY SCHOOLS IN EKITI

…charges members of public to speak out on cases of gender based violence

Adolescent Girls’ Initiative for Learning and Empowerment, “AGILE Project” in partnership with Ekiti State Government has trained some selected focal persons across secondary schools in the State on Greviance Redress Mechanism and Gender Based Violence

The selected focal persons will go to their various schools to step down the training and ensure that cases of Gender Based Violence are minimized to nearest minimum just as they are expected to make themselves available to receive report from members of the public.

Speaking on Greviance Redress Mechanism’s during the training held in Ado Ekiti, one of the resource persons, Mr. Emmanuel Erinwinhe urged the participants to always report cases of GBV and greviance to the appropriate quaters for necessary action.

He appealed to them to always record complaints within the schools in the log books provided for them, saying AGILE would be responsible for cases revorded within the schools premises.

Mr Erinwinhe charged the focal persons to adequately monitor the AGILE projects in their various schools and ensure that quality materials were used.

Also, Mrs Ruth Johnson who spoke extensively on Danger of Gender Based Violence urged students to flee away from any activity that could affect their personality and expose them to violence

In a remark, the AGILE Cordinator in Ekiti State, Mrs Yewande Adesua said the training was to strengthen the capacity of the focal persons on GBV and GRM, saying most secondary schools in the state had benefited from AGILE project in terms of infrastructure and instructional materials.

In an interview, some of the participants appreciated AGILE and Ekiti State Government for given priority to education of younger generation and promised to make use of the experience gained during the training to minimize Gender Based Violence in the society.

AGILE project is being sponsored by World Bank in some selected State with the aim of promoting decent environment in schools for girl child to school without discrimination, attack and violence.

Ekiti State is the only one selected in the south as beneficiary of the gesture.
