With the Ekiti State governorship election just weeks away, the Kids & Teens Resource Centre (K&TRC) with support from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has embarked on grassroots campaign aimed at driving civic education and peace advocacy across six communities in Ekiti West Local Government Area.
Program officer of the Kids & Teens Resource Centre (K&TRC), Dr Gbenga Adesunloro confirmed that more than 1,600 residents have been reached directly ahead of the June 20, 2026 poll.
The 10-day outreach, according to Dr. Adesunloro focused on voter participation, Permanent Voter Card collection, peaceful conduct, and resistance to vote-buying.
Communities covered included Aramoko, Erinjinyan, Erio, Ipole, Okeimesi, and Ikogosi.
He explained that the campaign used a mix of market outreaches, stakeholder meetings, radio sensitisation, and street-level mobilisation to take voter education directly to residents rather than relying on formal town hall meetings.
He said:”At the bustling Aramoko market, over 600 traders, artisans, transport workers, and residents joined open-air sessions. Volunteers moved through crowded clusters with fliers and megaphones, answering questions on voting procedures, polling units, and electoral safety. Residents were repeatedly urged to reject vote-selling and participate peacefully.
“The goal was to take democracy directly to the people,” members of the mobilisation team said. The effort has become one of the most extensive community-based voter education drives in Ekiti West in recent years.
Adesunloro added that the regent of Aramoko Kingdom also endorsed the programme and called for sustained voter enlightenment across the kingdom’s communities.
The campaign reached a milestone on May 19 when over 80 community leaders — including high chiefs, quarter chiefs, and women leaders from 18 communities — met for a stakeholders’ dialogue convened by the Regent.
