The Governor of Benue state Fr. Hyacinth lormem Alia has revealed his intentions to support those affected by the 2022 flood and to address the challenges arising from the subsidy removal.
Govt Alia, who stated this via his official Facebook page said he has put forth a comprehensive plan that aims to uplift various segments of Benue state population.
According to him, “In response to the subsidy removal, I assure you that we are dedicated to minimizing its impact on our beloved state. We have devised a comprehensive plan that aims to uplift various segments of our population.
“Our commitment to education is unwavering, and we will register WAEC and NECO examinations free of charge for graduating students in public schools, ensuring they have the best chance at a successful academic journey.
“Recognising the importance of digital skills in today’s world, we will provide intensive ICT training to 2000 youth, equipping them with the tools needed to secure jobs both locally and internationally.
“Some of the skills we are rolling out immediately in the first phase include: digital marketing and e-commerce, software development, advanced data analytics, data science and analytics, user interface and user experience, backend development, frontend development, graphics, infographics, and smartphone videography.
“Additionally, we plan to empower 5000 women through grants based on the revised social register of women’s cooperatives, fostering economic independence and growth.
“To enhance transportation services, we are investing in our state-owned transport company, Benue Links, by purchasing one hundred new buses. These buses will provide subsidized transportation services to our people, making movement more convenient and affordable.”
