The Nigeria Union of Pensioners, NUP, Ekiti Council, has said that Governor Biodun Oyebanji has remained the only Governor produced by the State that has been consistent in paying pensions and gratuities to Pensioners.

This statement was made by the Chairman of the Union, Comrade Joel Akinola, while delivering his speech at the inauguration of the Caretaker Committee of NUP, Ado Branch, today.

According to him, the Governor has been consistent in the promotion of the welfare of Pensioners in the State, revealing that, the Governor disbursed above N1 billion to the Union for both the State and Local governments to settle outstanding pensions by the Previous Administration.

He said, “Governor Oyebanji gave gratuities to Local Government beneficiaries and state level on the same day. Above 1billon Naira was disbursed to the Union that same day, which had never happened before.

“The Past Administration was owing us arrears of seven months’ pension, which the Governor has paid three out of the Seven months’ arrears. In fact, last week, Governor Oyebanji gave us the sum of N5 million from his personal pocket as his contribution to our Guest House Project in Illawe Road,” he added.

More so, inaugurating the Caretakers, the Chairman revealed that the inauguration decision was taken yesterday due to claims of unruly behaviour exhibited by the former executives of the Union, which according to him was “misrepresenting and appalling”

In line with this, the Union appointed an 8-man Committee Member, which includes: Mr Wilfred Adesuyi as the Chairman of the Committee; Chief Basorun Taiwo, Vice Chairman; Mr Segun Makinde, Treasurer; Mr Adeola Michael, Secretary; Mrs Sabinal Adeniji, Auditor; Mr Makanju Israel, Ex-Officio; Mr Akintoye Kolawole, Ex-Officio and Mr J.O. Olorunfemi, Ex-Officio to represent the Union in the next six months before conducting the Union’s Election.

Also, the newly appointed Committee Chairman, Comrade Wilfred Adesuyi, while delivering his acceptance speech, assured the Union of a selfless and transparent Service that would facilitate the disposition of their duties without fear or favour of persons.

He said, ” It is a great delight to be representing this Union in the next Six Months. As much lies in us, we promise to deliver our duties without fear or favour and to ensure that this Union has a recognised body that will be duly elected before the end of our tenure.”

Moreover, Comrade Akinola implored Members of the Caretaker Committee to carry Members of the Union along whenever decisions are to be taken to propagate an inclusive administration.
