A Non-Governmental Organization, Gold Heart Foundation has partnered The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Ekiti State Council to end Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) and other gender related issues.
The group made this know on Thursday during a courtesy visit to the NUJ Secretariat in Ado-Ekiti.
According to the Executive Director, Moyeoluwa Ogundowole, the foundation has been existing for over six years aimed at educating the girl child on gender issues, assist vulnerable children to access qualitative educate among others.
She equally stated that the aim of the visit is work with the media in the fight against FGM, drug abuse and create awareness on career development among young ones.
Also, she noted that the foundation had offered skills aquisition to orphanage homes, enrolled children to schools, and trained girls on how to make reusable pads.
“We’ve been existing for over six years. We enroll children to schools and we train girls on how to make disposable pads. We also work on issues of drug abuse, sensitize adolescent boys and girls and fight against Female Gender Mutilation.”
On his part, the NUJ Chairman, Kayode Babatuyi said the union is ready to mobilize it’s members to support the organization to do better in the areas of assisting the vulnerable persons in the society.
He urged them to always call on the council when they are embarking on advocacy and sensitization and report cases of GBV to the media.
