Students of Federal University, Oye-Ekiti, FUOYE, have taken to the social media to demand justice over the death of a 200-level Nursing student, Atanda Modupe Deborah.
Deborah, who was declared missing within the school premises on 5/09/2023 was found dead in a shallow grave at a distance of about 30 meters behind the Nursing Lecture Hall.
In a series of Tweet with the hashtag #JusticeForDeborah, they expressed dissatisfaction over the level of insecurity and inadequate power supply on campus.
With inscriptions such as “Light up FUOYE”, “Install CCTV Cameras”, “FUOYE is not a Farm”, “Clear the Forest”, they called on the management to install CCTV cameras and beef up security in the institution.
While some accused the Vice-Chancellor for creating Stream A and B which has left only Stream A students on campus, they urged the management to bring the perpetrators to book.
“Please guys let us trend this. We don’t have bush in FUOYE, what we have is forest. We don’t have skilled security men, we need CCTV to take coverages. We need light at night within the campus.
“All this would have not happened if the VC never created Stream A and B, leaving only we the stream A students on Campus while Staylite and Stream B are on Holiday, No Lectures, No light and No security.
“We aren’t trending this enough and I’m really sad about it. This is the only thing we owe our Comrade. We can force the right people to swift to action if we make this trend more. We demand justice for Modupe. Everyone involved in her death must face the rot.
“Students gets killed and what does the school management do, send every student home. If you’re in FUOYE, better stay back and asked for Justice! They can’t just sweep this under the carpet!”
Meanwhile, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abutu Sunday in a press release in Ado-Ekiti, on Thursday, said 10 suspects are currently in police custody undergoing investigation.
