The Management of the Federal University, Oye-Ekiti, FUOYE, has denied report of alleged incidents of robbery and rape attacks on its campus.

Recall that students of the university in the Ikole Study Centre in Ikole-Ekiti had raised an alarm over alleged incessant robbery and rape attacks by unknown persons in the institution.

Reacting, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (administration) of the university, Prof. Tajudeen Opoola said the report was false and misleading.

According to Prof. Opoola, the management of the institution has provided very tight and reliable security for all students and staff of the university.

He clarified that the incidents happened outside the premises of the university which is the community where the students who live off campus reside.

Prof. Opoola said: “FUOYE is a well secured environment for all students and staff. We have put in place security measures that will prevent such tragic incidents. Everything possible and necessary has been done to ensure that our students are safe on campus. We have very cordial relationship and fruitful cooperations with all our host communities on matters relating to the security of our students.

“The alleged incidents of rape and robbery attacks did not happen on our campus in lkole and could not have happened on the campus. We have the best quality of security gadgets and personnel on ground to prevent such incidents of robbery and rape on campus.

“So, we urge all our students to be rest assured that they are safe on campus. We also urge them to desist from late night movement and for those living off campus, they should be mindful of their environment. How secured it is, they should not walk alone in lonely, bushy places at odd hours whenever they are outside the campus.

“For the recent incidents, our security unit has been on top of the situation, taking necessary actions needed to prevent such occurrence in the future. Once again, we urge all students to remain calm and security conscious whenever they are outside the university premises.”
