...warns against POS charge
Ekiti State government on Monday read the riot act to petrol marketers, directing them to end the artificial scarcity of fuel in the state or face stiff action.
Speaking at a meeting with executives of petroleum dealers in Ekiti State, Chairman of the Petroleum Products Consumers Protection Agency, Hon. Odunayo Arinka said the state government will take alternative measures, if petrol queues fail to clear.
He added that they would continue to engage in rigorous monitoring to ensure that residents have access to petrol and that the product is sold in line with federal government controlled price.
He called on petrol station owners in Ekiti State to make the product available to residents and desist from sharp practices, ordering them to desist charging customers making use of POS.
Hon. Arinka expressed optimism that with the federal government move, the price of fuel would soon be reduced to make life bearable for the masses.
On his part, Chairman of Petroleum Dealers Associaton in Ekiti State, Evangelist Olu Olebele said the price increment and artificial scarcity is due to the cost of the product they bought from the depot.
They also lamented over the amount of money to transport fuel to Ekiti Sate, compared to others states.
Recall that in recent time, long queues resurfaced at fuel stations across the state as many outlets shut down their facilities and refused to dispense fuel to motorists, further creating scarcity and panic buying.
