FRSC, Transport Unions Begin Joint Patrol to Curb Road Crashes in Ekiti

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Ekiti Sector Command, has commenced a joint enforcement and enlightenment patrol with the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) and the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN) as part of efforts to promote safer roads during the Ember Months.
The exercise, which will continue intermittently until the end of the year, is aimed at strengthening collaboration between the road safety agency and transport unions, sensitising motorists on safe driving and ensuring compliance with road traffic rules and regulations.
Speaking at the flag-off of the operation, the Ekiti Sector Commander, Corps Commander Sanya Adeoye, FCIPurS, MCILT, said the Command would leverage its cordial relationship with the leadership of NURTW and RTEAN to encourage voluntary compliance among motorists.
Adeoye stressed that although public enlightenment remained a major component of the exercise, enforcement would not be compromised.
He said the joint operation was designed to achieve maximum results and contribute to a crash-free Ember Months period across the state.
The state chairmen of NURTW and RTEAN, Comrade Omotayo Falope (Oloforo) and Comrade Sunday Adeoye, respectively, welcomed the initiative and commended the FRSC Sector Commander for what they described as an inclusive and proactive approach to road safety.
The union leaders pledged the cooperation of their members to ensure the success of the joint operation.
During the patrol, FRSC officials arrested motorists for various offences, including seat-belt violations, failure to comply with speed-limiting device requirements, overloading and other traffic infractions.
The offenders were subsequently enlightened and booked in accordance with relevant procedures, with emphasis placed on corrective education.
