Former Councillors in Ekiti State under the aegis of Forum of Immediate Past Councillors 2022-2024 have endorsed Governor Biodun Oyebanji of Ekiti State for a second term in office.
The Forum comprising 161 former Councillors publicly declared their support for the governor to contest for re-election on Thursday in Ado-Ekiti.
Speaking at the endorsement programme, Coordinator of the Forum, Prince Adeyinka Adewale, said the resolved to support the governor due to his tremendous and impactful governance to the people of the state.
He noted that the governor has demonstrated commitment to their welfare through prompt payment of salaries during their tenure in office.
According to him; “We appreciate your commitment to paying our leave bonuses, severance packages, and considering us for appointment to various positions. We believe that your prompt attention to these matters will demonstrate your continued commitment to the welfare of those who have served our state.
“We are confident that together, we can resolve any issues and move forward in the best interests of our state. Your leadership and dedication to our state’s progress are commendable and we are honoured to endorse your re-election bid today.”
Speaking at the event, the Director General, Office of Community Communication, Mrs Mary Omotosho lauded the Forum for endorsing the governor for a second term in office adding that the move is a testament of the giant strides of the present administration.
She called on other stakeholders in the state to support the governor in delivering the dividends of democracy saying that the people of the state are pleased with the administration of Governor Oyebanji.
“They have gathered together to tell the governor to continue. They said that the have seen the good works of the governor and they want this to continue. What they have done is not out of place.
“They are not in government. They are former councillors. If they have put this thought together, it means they are impressed. Ordinarily as politicians, they should be even be angry that they are not in government but they said that the governor has impressed them and they will want to work for the governor to come back to the office.
“It is a good thing and will encourage other politicians that Governor Biodun Oyebanji is a good product and one we can all rely on and trustworthy. Ordinarily, he has gained the trust of the people on the streets.
“From what we can see in town, the way they have taken ownership of the project, the way they react when we go for project monitoring, we can see they are so pleased with the style of leadership. As party members, we should all come together and ensure that we support the current governor to even do more for the people of Ekiti State.”
