The Federal Government of Nigeria has officially declared 16 years as the minimum age for admission into all tertiary institutions across the country.

This announcement was made by the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, during the 2025 Policy Meeting of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) held in Abuja.

Dr. Alausa stressed that the new age policy is final and non-negotiable, warning that any admission conducted outside the Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS) will now be considered illegal.

He also issued a stern warning to institutional heads, noting that anyone found guilty of manipulating the admission process or engaging in fraud would be prosecuted under the law.

This annual policy meeting is crucial for setting guidelines that govern the admission process into universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education for the upcoming academic session.
