…says palliative implementation measures not tackling issues
By Akubulu Ngozi
One time Kaduna Central Senator and President of Civil Right Congress of Nigeria, CRCN, Shehu Sani has claimed that, issues between Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC and the Federal Government, FG is caused by Communication breakdown and dislocation.
Sani made this claim during an interactive session with journalists on Arise News Television, today.
According to him, the demands of NLC is legitimate and the Government’s comment on means of tackling it is right as well, but the problem is lack of accessible channel to convey these opinions
He said, “I think the issue is communication dislocation; what Labour is demanding is right and what the Government is saying in terms of implemention is also right. I think the problem has to do with the absence of platforms for these issues to be addressed and I think this is a challenge to President Bola Tinubu.
“I believe the demands are achievable but the thing is somebody needs to lead and articulate this. It can only be done when the government are fully informed.”
Also, commenting on the palliatives that has been made available by the Federal Government to tackle the issues stimulated by the fuel subsidy removal, Sani mentioned that, the palliatives
implementation measures are not effective in tackling problem.
“I think the Labour and the Government have come to terms to agree for the first time that subsidy has to go, but where the problem comes in is on the implementation of the palliative measures and and actions that need to be taken to elevate the consequences as a result of this removal. From what I know, there were dialogue and negotiation between FG and Labour but for the fact that Government is just coming to power and there’s no minister that can be held responsible.
“There was sincere effort from labour to negotiate and I believe also that Government knows the consequences and they too have to negotiate, but they need someone who would be held responsible, you cannot put the chief of staff to negotiate on behalf of the Government, you cannot put the spokesperson, you need a ministry to negotiate,” he said.
