The management of Federal Polytechnic Ado-Ekiti has once again demonstrated its commitment to humanitarian service with the donation of food items and relief materials to vulnerable children at an orphanage and a correctional centre in Ekiti State.
The places visited are Erelu Adebayo Children Home and Children Correctional Centre.
Some of the items donated include food stuffs, beverages confectionaries and other essential items.
The management team was Led by the Deputy Rector, Administration, Dr. Michael Akinola, on behalf of the Rector Dr. Temitope Alake.
The team included the Registrar Mrs. Folashade Akintola, Barrister Tosin Babalola, and representatives of the non-academic staff union.
The visits were met with excitement as the children welcomed the delegation with songs, dancing, and prayers.
Speaking on behalf of the Rector, Dr. Akinola said the outreach reflects Engr. Dr. Alake’s compassionate leadership and his personal commitment to supporting orphanages and vulnerable communities since assuming office. He emphasized that while government has a role to play, individuals and institutions also have a responsibility to uplift those in need.
“The Polytechnic remains committed to giving back to society and encouraging children in difficult circumstances to remain hopeful, disciplined, and focused on their education,” he said. He also offered prayers for the children and caregivers, assuring them of the institution’s continued support.
At the orphanage, which houses about 50 children, a teacher described the gesture as timely and uplifting, while one of the children offered prayers for the Polytechnic and its leadership. At the correctional centre, where about 15 children are currently in care, Dr. Akinola recalled the institution’s earlier visit two years ago and reiterated the Rector’s passion for helping young people rebuild hope for the future.
He urged the children not to let their present situation define their destiny, encouraging them to obey their caregivers, embrace discipline, and prioritize their studies.
Speaking with journalists after the outreach, Dr. Akinola described Rector Alake as a leader with a large heart who believes strongly in community support and extending kindness to the less privileged.
