FBOMF Donates Diapers, Wipes to 135 Pregnant Women in Osun, Advocates Family Planning

The Funmilayo Bamidele Oke Memorial Foundation (FBOMF) has extended support to expectant mothers in Osun State with the donation of diapers and baby wipes to over 135 pregnant women at Ofoma Maternity Home.

The outreach, which took place in Gbongan, Ayedaade Local Government Area, was carried out on behalf of the Foundation’s Chairperson, Hon Taiwo Oluga, by the Secretary, Barrister Adenitan Akinola.

Speaking during the presentation, Oluga urged the beneficiaries to take family planning and child spacing seriously, stressing the economic realities facing many households.

“The responsibility of raising children in the current economic situation requires careful planning,” she said. “Families, especially mothers, must be deliberate about child spacing to ensure proper care and upbringing.”

She further warned that Nigeria’s rapidly growing population poses a significant challenge, noting that available resources may not be sufficient to support the increasing numbers.

“Nigeria’s population is growing at a rate that is becoming difficult to sustain. Some countries have recognized this challenge and have prioritized family planning. It is time we intensified awareness and action on this issue,” Oluga added.

The Chairperson called on government at all levels to strengthen policies and campaigns around family planning, while also urging civil society organisations and non-governmental organisations to play more active roles in sensitising communities.

In his remarks, a member of the foundation’s team, Hon Femi Abiona, described the intervention as a modest contribution aimed at supporting expectant mothers.

“This is just a token from the foundation to show that we care and to support these women during this important phase of their lives,” he said.

The proprietor and supervising birth attendant at the maternity home, Mrs Mary Ofoma, commended the foundation for the gesture, noting that the items would go a long way in assisting indigent pregnant women in the community.

“We are grateful to the Chairperson and the entire foundation for remembering us. This support will ease the burden on many of these women who struggle to meet basic needs,” she said.

Some of the beneficiaries also expressed appreciation for the intervention. Mrs Adebayo Temilade described the donation as timely and impactful, while Ahmed Monsurat thanked the foundation for its kindness and concern for vulnerable mothers.

The outreach forms part of FBOMF’s ongoing efforts to support women and children, particularly in underserved communities.
