Family Wellspring Foundation Debuts in Iyin-Ekiti, Reaches 53 Teen Moms, Widows With Health Care, Food Aid

Iyin-Ekiti — The Family Wellspring Foundation for Children, Women, and Family Empowerment launched operations Thursday at Araromi LCDA, combining medical outreach and food relief for more than 53 teenage mothers and widows.

The foundation kicked off its work with free health screenings, including blood pressure checks and medical consultations, alongside a sensitization session on affordable nutrition using locally available foods. Each beneficiary also received food items, including rice and garri, plus cash for transport and clothing to ease household burdens.

The outreach extended to the Heart of Dorcas Orphanage in Ado-Ekiti, where the team delivered rice, garri, and clothing to support the children and staff.

Executive Director Pharm. Adesanoye Olamide said the organization was created to address mounting pressure on families. “Children are navigating challenges without the support they truly need, and many are carrying burdens they were never meant to bear alone,” she said. “Through our TeenS.H.I.F.T Initiative, we are here to show teenage mothers they are more than a statistic, providing them with the livelihood, education, and nutritional support they deserve.”

Health Officer of GoldHeart Foundation, Pharm. Omotayo Faith, who supported the launch, called the approach timely. “This is a vital way to launch a community initiative, especially in the current economy where vulnerable populations and nursing teenage mothers struggle to access healthy meals,” she said. “Providing both health assessments and nutritional assistance is essential for long-term community resilience.”

Beneficiaries said the program delivered more than material aid. “Beyond the food and clothes, I learned a lot about immunization for my baby and was able to check my blood pressure,” one teenage mother said. “This support means a lot to us.”

Local leaders backed the initiative. Mr. Tosin Obadare, Administrator of the Community Skills Acquisition Centre in Iyin-Ekiti, praised the foundation’s timing and thanked the NGO sector for its continued support. He noted that the Oluyin of Iyin-Ekiti, Oba Adeola Ajakaiye, was briefed on the program and sent personal commendations for the foundation’s dedication to community development.

The Family Wellspring Foundation plans to use the Iyin-Ekiti launch as a model for future interventions across Nigeria, focusing on the intersection of healthcare, education, and economic empowerment for families.
