Leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Ado-Ekiti have warned Dr. Wole Oluyede to stop tarnishing the image of Hon. Deji Ogunsakin in a bid to revive his fading political career.
The leaders, in a statement, said their attention was drawn to a meeting of some individuals who presented themselves as Ado-Ekiti stakeholders with the intention of tarnishing Ogunsakin’s reputation.
They said though they would not have dignified the allegations with a response, it became necessary to set the records straight.
The PDP leaders challenged Dr. Oluyede to come forward with details of the money he allegedly released to Ogunsakin during the electioneering period and state what was not properly utilised, rather than making vague allegations.
Giving a breakdown of contributions, they said for the Ado-Ekiti Local Government rally, Dr. Oluyede contributed Six Million Naira, Hon. Ogunsakin contributed Three Million Naira, while Monica Fajuyi contributed Five Hundred Thousand Naira and Hon. Mrs. Lanre Fajuyi contributed 15 bags of rice.
For the mega rally, they said Oluyede contributed Seven Point Five Million Naira for mobilisation in Ado-Ekiti, and on the eve of the election, he sent Fourteen Point Seven Five Million Naira for agents, security and other logistics.
They added that Hon. Ogunsakin single-handedly financed all campaign activities within Ado-Ekiti metropolis.
According to them, if Dr. Oluyede disputes the figures, he should state his own figures publicly and explain what was not accounted for.
The statement noted that Ogunsakin supported Oluyede in good faith, despite reservations by some Ado PDP leaders based on their previous knowledge of Oluyede’s political activities before joining the PDP.
It added that Oluyede came into the PDP without any significant political structure or substantial followership, and many who supported him were PDP members and leaders.
The leaders called for transparency, accountability and honesty, stressing that attempts to rewrite the history of the campaign will not change the facts known to those directly involved.
The statement was signed by Hon. Makanjuola Temitope, Party Secretary.
Those present at the meeting include Hon. Mrs. Lanre Fajuyi, PDP Zonal Ex-Officio; Hon. Kayode Yusuf, PDP Senatorial Chairman; Alhaji Raheem Adeparusi, State Ex-Officio; Chief Mrs. Ajoke Awojugbe, ward chairmen and other notable leaders.
