After a thrilling 1-1 draw in regular time, a ten-man Manchester United team defeated Arsenal in a penalty shootout at the Emirates Stadium, ending Arsenal’s FA Cup hopes.
There were many intense moments in the game, including when Gabriel Jesus, an Arsenal forward, suffered a serious injury. Jesus had to be carried off the field in obvious distress after he collided awkwardly while trying to remove Bruno Fernandes.
Bruno Fernandes gave Manchester United the lead with a goal. After United’s Diogo Dalot was given a second yellow card, leaving his team with ten men, the game took yet another dramatic turn. The equalizer was headed in by Gabriel Magalhães as Arsenal took advantage of their numerical advantage.
The awarding of a penalty to Arsenal after Kai Havertz was taken down by Harry Maguire with little contact caused a stir. Altay Bayindir, the goalkeeper for United, stopped Martin Ødegaard of Arsenal from taking the penalty, so the score remained the same.
After extra time ended without any more goals, the game went to a penalty shootout. All five of Manchester United’s penalty kicks were converted, demonstrating their exceptional poise, while Arsenal missed two, including one from Kai Havertz. With their victory, United advanced to the FA Cup’s next round.
