The Zakat and Sadaqat Foundation has again brought succor to some vulnerable persons in Ekiti State after empowering them with working tools and cash gifts to attend to their immediate needs.
This is one out of several of such gesture held in the state in recent time.
At the ceremony which took place within the premises of the
Ansar-Ud–Deen Mosque, Odo Otu, Ado Ekiti, the beneficiaries could not hold their joy as they appreciated the group for the gesture.
According to the beneficiaries, the working tools provided will assist them to go back to work and make them self sufficient.
Addressing the beneficiaries, the Executive Director, Zakat and Sadaquat Foundation, Prince Sulayman Olagunju represented by Alhaji Luqman Gawata congratulated the beneficiaries and urged them to make good use of the opportunity.
He explained that Zakat is one of the pillars of Islam which stipulates that every wealthy person must take a certain small percentage of their profits for the year and donate such for the care of the less privileged.
In their separate remarks, the leader of Muslim Students Society of Nigeria MSSN, Mr. Nurudeen Ibrahim, the President Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs Ekiti State, Alhaji Hammed Afolabi Bakare and the representative of the President General League of Imams and Alfas, Southwest, including Edo and Delta, Alhaji Salmon Adedipe appealed to goverment to adopt the Zakat programme as a means of addressing poverty in the country.
According to them, the gap between the poor and the rich in Nigeria is too wide hence the Zakat initiative can be used to mend the anomaly.
Earlier, the Coordinator of Zakat and Sadaquat Foundation in Ekiti State, Dr, Lukman Suleiman said thirty six people including a school boy benefited from the programme after thorough screening of applicants.
