EPL: Newcastle Beat Man United 4-1

Harvey Barnes scored twice as Newcastle defeated struggling Manchester United 4-1 on Sunday to move up to fourth place in the Premier League. Howe greatly benefited from Barnes’ brace in the second half at St. James’ Park, which strengthened Newcastle’s chances of making it to the Champions League.

As the first Newcastle player to score twice against United in a league match since Alan Shearer in 2000, Barnes took center stage after the break. In order to secure Newcastle’s first four-goal haul against United, Bruno Guimaraes corrected a mistake made by Altay Bayindir, the United goalkeeper who started in place of the injured Andre Onana.

Newcastle trails Nottingham Forest, who are in third place, by just one point in the competition for a top five finish and entry into the Champions League. United is currently in 14th place with six games remaining to avoid their lowest finish since 1973–74, when they finished 21st and were relegated after going four games without a victory across all competitions.
