The Kaduna State government has declared a 24-hour curfew on Kaduna and Zaria metropolitan cities with immediate effect.
Following an emergency security council meeting headed by Governor Uba Sani, to decide on security issues in the state.
According to a statement by the Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, the purpose for the curfew is that, the ongoing protest has been hijacked by criminals who have resorted to looting shops, and destruction of private and public properties in the state.
The statement warned citizens to remain indoors while security forces continued to work to maintain safety and order.
This is as Plateau and Katsina states have also imposed curfews following violent protests in the states.
Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang had announced the imposition of a 24-hour curfew on Jos-Bukuru metropolis effective from midnight of Sunday, August 4th, 2024
The Katsina Police Command on Monday, also said curfew in Dutsinma Local Government Area of the State and the twelve hours (12 hrs) from 7:00 pm to 7:00 am in the rest of the 33 LGAs of the state, is still in effect.
