EKSU SSANU, NASU STAGE PEACEFUL PROTEST OVER NON IMPLEMENTATION OF AGREEMENT

…seek renegotiation of 2009 agreement

Senior Staff Association of Nigeria University SSANU and Non Academic Staff Union NASU EKiti State University, EKSU have called on Government to invite the leadership of the Unions for renegotiation of Year 2009 Federal Government and NASU/SSANU Agreements.

The leadership of the two Unions made the call during a peaceful protest held in EKSU premises.

Addressing newsmen during the protest, SSANU Chairman, Comrade Temidayo Aguda also lamented non-Payment of 25/35% Salary Increments; unjust disbursement of N50Billion Earned Allowances; non-Payment of Outstanding Withheld Salaries and non-Payment of 3rd Party Deductions of the Two Months Salaries.

The EKSU SSANU Chairman stressed that the agreements of NASU and SSANU need to be reviewed every three years, but such was not done by the government.

Comrade Aguda explained that Federal Government had
approved the payment of 25% and 35% increase to different categories of staff, saying the approval was in default as arrears were being owed to members of NASU and SSANU, thereby defeating the purpose of the approved increments.

He said after a collective Bargaining Agreement with Government in 2022, where it was agreed that N50 Billion would be released for the payment of arrears of earned allowances, saying it was disheartening that when the monies were released, only twenty percent of the amount was allocated to the non teaching unions.

On his own, NASU Chairman,. Comrade Sunday Olajutemum called on all stakeholders in education sector to prevail on Federal Government to invite leadership of the two Union for renegotiation, saying the current salary of members of the Union was nothing to write home about.

The leaders of the Union therefore vowed that if Federal Government failed to honour the renegotiation, it would result to total strike which would affect academic calendar of the country.
