As the saying goes, prayer is the master key. it is in view of this that members of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities, SSANU, Ekiti State University, Ado-Ekiti chapter started year 2024 with a prayer session.
During the interdenominational prayer held at the SSANU cooperative multipurpose hall, at the University premises, members of the union sang and danced to appreciate God for sparing their lives throughout last year and for starting year 2024 in peace.
In his sermon at the service, Pastor O.A Akindele charged the SSANU members to have good plans for themselves, saying anyone who does not plan, will fail.
Pastor Akindele also urged them to be dedicated to their duties, as there is always reward for hard work from God and human beings.
He therefore told them to be more closer to God and cultivate the habit of praying for divine turn around in the new year.
Addressing the gathering, the Chairman, Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities, SSANU, Ekiti State University, Ado-Ekiti chapter, Comrade Azeez Aguda said the new year prayer, which is an annual event was to commit the activities of the Association to God’s hands.
Comrade Aguda called for the immediate payment of salary and promotion arrears, of the members of the union.
“As we are talking, we got our last salary in October last year and we are in January, there are lot of outstanding arrears and deductions that supposed to be paid”.
“We want to remind the government that they are still owing us four months arrears of subvention, two months in 2018 and also two months in 2023”.
He pointed out that EKSU has not received the wage award approved by the government.
Comrade Aguda appreciated Ekiti State Governor, Mr Biodun Oyebanji for the appointment of Dr Tunji Olowolafe as the new Chancellor of the University, while expressing optimism that he would perform exceptionally.
The EKSU SSANU Chairman called on members of the Association to put in their best and always operate with decorum.
While speaking, the Vice Chancellor, EKSU, Professor Edward Olanipekun commended the Association for its support in 2023, calling for its extension of such this year.
Rpresented by the Deputy Vice Chancellor Academics, Professor Babatola Ayodele, Professor Olanipekun assured them that all their demands would be attended to, in order to enjoy the cooperation of the various unions in the institution.
On his part, the Registrar of the University, Mr Ife Oluwole enjoined members of the union to see the students as their children and always be kind to them in anyway they need assistance.
Prayers were offered in Christian and Islamic ways for Nigeria, Ekiti State, EKSU and SSANU to succeed in the year 2024.
