…hold special prayer to usher in new year
Leaders and members of the Senior Staff Association of Nigeria Universities, SSANU, Ekiti State University Chapter are not pleased with the inability of management of the university to pay their salaries as and when due.
According to the workers, the university is yet to pay them August salary in the month of January despite the current economic hardship.
The workers who lamented the effect of the unpaid salaries on their wellbeing said it was unfair on the part of management to treat them in such a harsh way.
The workers spoke during a special inter religious prayer organized to usher in the new year and seek divine assistance over their predicament.
In his remark, the SSANU chairman, Comrade Azeez Aguda said the workers are embittered and could no longer bear the pain of working without getting paid.
He sia:”An hungry man is an angry man, there is no justification to work and not get August salary in January.
“The National has given me approval to go ahead with what ever we want to do regarding this situation and we are ready to go by the language the management understands if the needful is not done on time.
“We don’t deserve to be treated this way , how can we work and not get our salary, it is unfair.
“As much as we appreciate the elevation and return of our sacked members we look forward to payment of our salaries he said.
Aguda requested that all other members yet to be reabsorbed should be brought back for the school to know peace.
He said the sack of the members brought a lot of danger and set back to the university.
“Before now, we used to go home with goodies during Christmas but since the workers were sacked all those benefits became difficult.
“The thought of the university was to save money with the sack but since there sack things became worst for our university.
Speaking on the prayer, Aguda said the step was necessary to commit members before God for a successful 2023.
The programme which was held at the Ekiti State University Senior Staff Co-operative Hall focused on special prayers for the union, staff and management of the university for a successful year.
The representative of the Vice Chancellor of the university, Professor Ayantunji Adeleke had earlier sought the cooperation of the workers in the new year.
