EKSU PENSIONERS BEMOAN NON PAYMENT OF GRATUITIES, PENSIONS

…says management owing them over one point five billion naira

A cross section of Pensioners who retired from the service of the Ekiti State University Ado-Ekiti, EKSU, has expressed concern over the non payment of their benefits by management of the institution.

The retirees under the aegis of the Nigeria Universities Pensioners Association, EKSU chapter appealed to the state government to prevail on the management of the institution to attend to their needs so that they could heave a sigh of relief.

According to them government through the university is owing them gratuities worth over one point five billion naira spanning fifteen years adding that they have not receive their pension in the last five months.

The pensioners who spoke through their Chairman, Chief Samuel Bamidele Akinwale noted  that many of their members  were either dead or chronically ill because their dues were not paid and have no money to take care of themselves.

He said: “We are calling on Ekiti State government to  intervene in this matter by bailing out the University through a special fund which may likely save our people from going to their early graves.

“Pensioners are not on  strike but in retirement and should not be made to bear undue  punishment because a particular Union in the University is on strike

The EKSU retirees appealed  to the State government to  resolve with the striking lecturers in the institution to call off the strike.

The elderly citizens also used the forum to called  on the state government to increase funding of EKSU particularly the monthly subvention.
