Ekiti Police Warn Transport Unions Against Planned Protest, Cite Security Threat

The Ekiti State Police Command has warned members of transport unions in the state against proceeding with a planned protest scheduled for Monday, 22nd June 2026, saying intelligence suggests it may be hijacked and turn violent.

In a statement, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abutu Sunday, ANIPR, said the Command received information that the unions intend to embark on the protest to disrupt the current leadership structure within their ranks.

According to the police, available intelligence indicates the proposed protest “may be hijacked, leading to violence, public disorder, and possible loss of lives”.

The Commissioner of Police, Ekiti State Command, CP Falade Adegoroye Michael, therefore warned against any form of protest, gathering, or unlawful assembly by any group, particularly road transport unions, that could threaten peace and security in the state.

He urged aggrieved parties to remain calm and use lawful channels to address their grievances, stressing that any attempt to breach the peace and tranquillity in Ekiti would be met with decisive action in line with the law.

The Command also advised residents to remain law-abiding, vigilant, and continue their lawful businesses without fear. Members of the public were encouraged to report any suspicious movement or incident promptly to the nearest police station.

The Ekiti State Police Command reiterated its commitment to protecting lives and property and maintaining public order across the state.
