The Ekiti State Police Command has noted with concern the rising cases of motorcycle-related accidents across the State. These incidents are largely attributed to the flagrant disregard for traffic laws by some commercial and private motorcycle riders.
The Command observes that some riders engage in reckless riding, over-speeding, dangerous overtaking, and disobedience to traffic lights and road signs. Such actions endanger the lives of riders, passengers, pedestrians, and other road users.
In light of this, the Commissioner of Police, Ekiti State Command, CP Falade Adegoroye Michael, has directed all officers in charge of traffic enforcement to intensify patrols and ensure strict compliance with traffic regulations across the State.
The Command hereby warns all motorcyclists to desist from reckless riding and other traffic violations. Any rider found contravening traffic laws will be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law.
The Command also appeals to passengers and members of the public to caution riders against dangerous driving habits, especially at traffic light points. Passengers are advised to refuse rides that compromise their safety and to report errant riders to the nearest police station.
The Ekiti State Police Command reiterates that road safety is a collective responsibility. All road users are urged to exercise patience, discipline, and respect for traffic rules to prevent avoidable accidents and loss of lives.
The Command remains committed to the protection of lives and property and to ensuring the safety and security of all residents and road users in Ekiti State.
