The Ekiti State Police Command has arrested a police sergeant seen behaving erratically in a viral video suspected to have been taken while he was under the influence of an illicit drug.
The officer, who serves at the Ikole-Ekiti Division Police Headquarters, was identified and taken into custody shortly after the video surfaced online. The command said he is now in a stable condition and will face disciplinary proceedings.
Commissioner of Police, CP Falade Adegoroye Michael, has ordered psychological and medical evaluation for the officer ahead of the disciplinary process.
In a statement on May 9, 2026, the command said the officer’s conduct did not reflect the discipline and standards expected of the Nigeria Police Force.
Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abutu Sunday, said the command remains committed to protecting lives and property and ensuring personnel maintain professional conduct at all times. He urged residents to remain calm as the matter is handled.
