Ekiti Performance at National Sports Festival Sparks Reactions

…..result did not justify Oyebanji’s huge investment… Stakeholders

Despite the huge investment of Governor Biodun Oyebanji in Sports development, the contingents representing the state performed poorly in the just concluded Ogun 2025 National Sports Festival.

This development has however attracted bashing on the sport authorities under the leadership of the Technical Advisor on Sports, Olusola Osetoba.

Those who spoke affirmed that the results of Ekiti Contingent did not commesurate with the huge investment of Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji in the sector, hence they called for thorough investigation into the situation.

Recalled that states such as Delta, Bayelsa and Ogun won the most gold medals with 80, 50 and 44, respectively.

However, Ekiti, came 17th out of the 30 participating states winning just 2 gold medals, 1 silver and 10 bronze medals.

Speaking with journalists, a sport analyst, Segun Adegbamila said the results of the Ekiti contingent was not encouraging, hence government should look into the factors responsible for the poor outing and addresses the situation in future.

Another respondent, Adeola Kolawole blamed the poor outing on poor preparation, logistics and lack of proper coordination from the sport leadership.

Some of the athletes who spoke under the condition of anonymity identified lack of proper human capital development as a major factor.

They confirmed that their outing though not good enough was an improvement over the few years.

The athletes confirmed that before they left for the competition, there were several crisis in the sports circle, including the arrest of some athletes which generated a lot of head a faction among athletes.
