Ekiti Nurses Elect  New  Executive Officers, as Comrade Adegbuyi Becomes Chairman

The National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives, Ekiti State Chapter, has elected new Executive Committee Members that will pilot the affairs of the union for another four years.

At an election held in Ado-Ekiti during the 7th Quadrennial Delegates Conference, and presided over by delegates from the National Secretariat, Mr. Oladimeji Samuel- Adegbuyi emerged as the chairman, Omotosho Oladipo won the seat of the Vice Chairman while Patricia Eniola got the seat for Treasurer.

Other executives are Rachael Omoyeni-Ayayi, Financial Secretary, Odunayo Olufunmilayo, PRO, Dr. Christianah  Femi-Tanimowo, Auditor 1 and Comfort Obembe Auditor 2.

In his acceptance speech, the new chairman, Mr. Samuel-Adegbuyi thanked God for the new position of responsibility with a promise to serve diligently.

He sought the support of past leaders and members to move the union forward.

The outgone chairman, Comrade Kunle Oni had earlier congratulated the new executives and urged them to consolidate on the achievements recorded so far.

The Head of Service in Ekiti State, Sunday Komolafe had during the opening ceremony of the Quadrennial conference, called on the new executive members to imbibe the spirit of sportsmanship and work for the growth of the association.

The Head of Service reiterated the commitment of the state government to prioritise the welfare of health workers adding that efforts are in top gear to confront the challenges facing them.

His words: “Government is not unaware of challenges bedeviled medical sector in Nigeria in which nursing sector in Ekiti is not exempted. Solutions are not far from the horizon.

“I want to assure you that within the armbit of the available resources, we will proactively support efforts that will enchance better welfare package for health workers in the state.

“I want to enjoin those aspiring to the executive position to imbibe the spirit of sportsmanship and abide by the rules.”

Also, the National President of the association, Michael Ekuma charged the new leadership to ensure that every member is carried along in their activities.

According to him; “We have a task before us as leaders to have a more formidable and united national association which every member will be proud to identify with at all times.

“In every competitive even such as this election, there are usually winners and run-ups and as such the winners must be magnanimous to carry along everyone including those who conceded during the election process. It is important we must avoid rancour and acrimony but adopt the spirit of sportsmanship to give room for a united entity.”

Other labour union leaders who spoke at the event urged the new executive members perform their duties dispassionately devoid of rancour and acrimony.
