Ekiti NUP Endorses Governor Oyebanji for Second Term, Cite Welfare Gains

Members of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners, Ekiti State Council, have formally endorsed Governor Biodun Oyebanji for a second term in office, praising his commitment to pensioners’ welfare.

The endorsement was declared at a special rally held at the NUP secretariat in Ado-Ekiti, where hundreds of retirees gathered to express support for the governor ahead of the June 20 gubernatorial election.

Speaking at the event, the Chairman of the union, Mr. Tope Popoola, said the decision followed a unanimous resolution by members who recognized the governor’s consistent efforts to address long-standing pension issues.
He noted that the administration’s approach to prompt payment of monthly pensions, settlement of gratuity arrears, and provision of palliatives had restored confidence among retirees across the state.

“The governor has shown uncommon magnanimity and genuine passion for the welfare of pensioners,” Popoola said. “For many of our members, the regularity of payments and the additional support we have received in the last few years have made a real difference in our daily lives.”

His remarks were corroborated by the Secretary of the union, Mr. Azeez Agbaje, and other executive members present at the rally. They stressed that the endorsement was not politically motivated but based on the tangible benefits pensioners have experienced under the current administration.

The union also used the occasion to call on its members across the 16 local government areas to mobilize support for Oyebanji and ensure a peaceful election.
