Ekiti NUJ Commends Oyebanji’s Reconciliation Efforts, Calls for Sustained Unity

..seeks upgrade of government media houses

The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ekiti State Council, has commended the reconciliatory initiatives of Governor Abiodun Oyebanji towards other contestants in the June 2026 governorship election, describing the development as a demonstration of unity and a prioritisation of the overall interest of the state above partisan considerations.
The Union also praised the decision of some opposition candidates and their supporters to support the newly elected governor, urging political leaders and stakeholders to sustain the emerging spirit of reconciliation, cooperation and inclusiveness for the peace, stability and accelerated development of Ekiti State.
The resolutions were contained in a communiqué issued at the end of the August Congress of the NUJ Ekiti State Council, held at the Tai Oguntayo Hall, NUJ Press Centre, Ado-Ekiti, and presided over by the council chairman, Comrade Kayode Babatuyi.
The Congress also commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for approving the reconstruction of some federal roads across Ekiti State, noting that the projects would improve transportation, commerce and the general well-being of the people. It, however, urged the Federal Government to prevail on the contractors handling the projects to accelerate the pace of work and ensure their timely completion, considering the hardship being experienced by commuters and residents due to the poor condition of some roads.
The journalists further called on the Federal and State Governments to urgently equip government-owned media houses with modern and state-of-the-art equipment to enable journalists and other media professionals operate effectively in line with contemporary technological standards.
The Congress also commended the leadership of the President of the NUJ, Alhaji Yahaya Alhassan, describing his administration as purposeful and result-oriented. It noted that the leadership had contributed significantly to the repositioning of the Union and reaffirmed the Ekiti Council’s commitment to supporting the administration in moving the NUJ to greater heights.
The Congress equally congratulated Mr. David Olajide and Mr. Sunday Agunbiade, two Directors who recently retired from the Ekiti State Ministry of Information, on their meritorious service to the state and the journalism profession.
It acknowledged their contributions to the development of the Ministry of Information and wished them fulfilling and rewarding years in retirement.
