The Ekiti State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Mr Agboola Adisa Sunday has issued a stern warning to youths planning to participate in the proposed nationwide protest, urging them to exercise restraint and refrain from damaging public properties.
Mr Agboola disclosed this today while addressing Divisional Officers, Area Commanders and other ranks during an emergency meeting at the State Headquarters in Ekiti State.
While acknowledging the fundamental right to protest, the NSCDC commandant stressed the importance of protecting critical national assets and infrastructure, which are vital to the survival of the people. He emphasized that the NSCDC is committed to safeguarding public utilities and preventing vandalism.
In his words, he said “The right to protest is a fundamental right, and we will ensure that it is protected, however, we must also remember that others need their support to enjoy their rights. Destruction of public property will not be tolerated.”
Mr Agboola revealed that the NSCDC has deployed officers to strategic areas which harbors Critical National Infrastructure, sacred places and other private businesses that are driving Ekiti economy. He said the deployment aims to ensure the safety of these vital assets so that the state economy will not be affected negatively.
The NSCDC commandant however cautioned divisional officers in their respective jurisdictions to maintain professionalism and avoid unnecessary confrontations with protesters. He emphasized that cautions from officers are needed to control and dissuade people from creating hardships along with the current conditions that are enumerated by the proposed protesters.
