Ekiti NSCDC Parades Six Suspects for Drug Trafficking

The Ekiti State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has paraded six individuals suspected of involvement in drug trafficking and the circulation of illicit substances, including cannabis sativa, crystal methamphetamine (ice), and synthetic cannabinoids (loud and Colorado).

The arrests were made in separate operations at Ikoro Ekiti and along the Ilawe-Igbara Odo road, following routine route checks and surveillance conducted by the NSCDC’s Counter Terrorism Unit. Six individuals were apprehended, while others remain at large.

Peter Emmanuel (30), John Friday (23), Bolarinde Oluwaseun (32), and Oladele Samuel (25) were arrested along the Igbara Odo/Ilawe axis. A routine search of their belongings revealed suspected illicit drugs concealed within their bags as they attempted to evade NSCDC operatives.

Abdulahi Olayinka (27) and Yakubu Kamarudeen (22) were apprehended in Iloro Ekiti while allegedly distributing suspected cannabis sativa. The NSCDC acted on numerous complaints from residents alleging the duo’s involvement in drug distribution and other criminal activities within the community.

State Commandant of the Ekiti NSCDC, Oluwaseun Paul Sosina, PhD, fsi, assured the public that the Command, in collaboration with other security agencies, will transfer the suspects to the appropriate authorities after preliminary investigations. He emphasized the NSCDC’s commitment to responding to distress calls and confronting criminal elements seeking to disrupt the peace of Ekiti State.

Commandant Sosina appealed to parents, traditional rulers, and community leaders to remain vigilant and assist security agencies in identifying and apprehending criminals within their communities. He stressed that such collaborative efforts are crucial for protecting critical national assets and infrastructure, particularly given the recent displacement of scavengers from the state capital, which could lead to increased criminal activity in rural areas.
