Ekiti NSCDC Deploys New Technology to Fight Crime

…marks 2023 World Civil Defence Day

The Ekiti State Commandant, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, CC John Olatunde said the introduction of high technologies will help to fight crime in the state.

The Commandant stated this in Ado-Ekiti, on Wednesday, at the World Civil Defence Day, celebrated annually to awaken consciousness about the necessity of Civil Defence, strategies employed and deployed in protecting people and the environment.

In a statement by DSC Afolabi Tolulope, CDPRO, the State Commandant delivered his address in line with the theme: “The Role of information Technology in Risk Assessment.”

Commandant Fayemi said the theme is championed on the interest and necessity of high technologies and inter connectivity of modems and satellite pings, artificial intelligence and robotic engineering in assessing risks related to civil populace security system and homeland security.

According to the Commandant, “technological advancement in information technology helps to prepare necessary back ups in case of natural and man made disasters anytime they surface. With the development in technical know-how, total reliance on artificial intelligence can fail because they are put in place by human beings who are better reasoning than the computer.”

The Commandant praised the introduction of Technology in the just concluded Presidential and National Assembly elections which helped to minimize vote buying and other electoral offences with a clear warming that over reliance on technology may bring confusion and people should know how to reconcile differences arising from failure of technology.

He alluded further on the commitment of the Commandant General, Ahmed Abubakar Audi, PhD, mni, OFR to digitalize the administration and operations of the Corps for seamless intra and inter Agency collaborations and synergies.

He highlighted the use of Information Technology Apps such as I – EARS ( Integrated Electronic Arrest Reporting System) and PCASM (Public Crime Alert System Monitoring) in the operations of the Corps to drive the Safe School Initiative; as well as gathering Intelligence for national security.
