EKITI NLC DESCRIBES KILLING OF MONARCHS IN IPAO AS SACRILEGE, DISRESPECT TO TRADITIONAL STOOL

…wants Government to criminalize open grazing in Ekiti

The Nigeria Labour Congress NLC Ekiti State has joined others to condemn in the killing of two traditional rulers by some suspected kidnappers along Ipao-Oke Ako road on Monday.

The deceased monarchs, Onimojo of Imojo Ekiti, Oba Olatunde Olusola and the Elesun of Esun Ekiti, Oba David Ogunsola were murdered in an ambush by unknown gunmen suspected to be kidnappers along Ipao-Oke AKo road in Ikole local Government Area of Ekiti State.

Addressing newsmen in Ado Ekiti, the Chairman of NLC in Ekiti State, Comrade Kolapo Olatunde described the killing of the monarchs as an aberration and disrespect to traditional stool.

The NLC Chairman also expressed concern over the abduction of some teachers and students of Apostolic Faith Nursery and Primary school Emure Ekiti and called on the security agents to swing into action in ensuring their quick release.

Comrade Olatunde who called for criminalizing open grazing in Ekiti State alleging that some herdsmen hide under to perpetrate kidnapping and other criminal acts, prayed God to grant the family of the deceased monarch fortitude to bear the irreparable lost.

According to him, frequent attacks and abduction  of innocent citizens in the country calls for serious action by the  authorities concerned, and called on the security apparatus to strengthen their intelligence networks around the black spots in the country. 

Comrade Olatunde who commended the quickly response of Governor Biodun Oyebanji towards the development, sympathized with the people of Emure Ekiti, Imojo and Esun-Ekiti over the unfortunate incidences. 

While describing the killings of the monarchs,  and abduction of innocent   pupils as lawlessness and act of wickedness, the NLC Chairman called on the Federal Government to rejig the security architectures in order to forestall future occurrence of criminal activities in the country.

He urged the Federal Government to approve community policing to complement the efforts of conventional ones to win the war against kidnapping and banditry, saying Amotekun Corps should be allowed to carry guns to be able to face the bandits who he alleged are fully armed.
