…as retirees call for increased In number of permanent secretary at local government level.
The Ekiti State Local Government Service Commission on Saturday held a get-to-together to honour Principal Officers, who retired between 1996 and 2023.
The programme which is the first of its kind in the history of the Ekiti State Local Government Service Commission took place at the NULGE Hall in Ado Ekiti and afforded the retirees the opportunity to refraternized again.
The Senior retired officers comprised former Permanent Secretaries, Executive Directors, Heads of Local Government Administration HLAS, Directors, among others.
The retirees, who dressed gorgeously were full of excitement as they exchange pleasantries with one another.
Addressing the retired officers, the Ekiti State Head of Service, Eng. Sunday Komolafe told them that they were celebrated due to their outstanding performances while in active service while congratulating them for being alive to witness the event.
The Ekiti State Head of Service therefore urged those in acting service to redouble efforts by support the present administration led by Governor Biodun Oyebanji to be able to deliver good governance to all Ekiti workers.
In his address, Permanent Secretary, Ekiti State Local Government Service Commission, Mr Babatunde Jegede explained that the forum would be used to assist in making duties less rancorous, eliminate acrimony among professionals, reposition retirees for appointments by government, conduct lecture on wellness and life in retirement.
Mr. Jegede also called for adequate sensitization and enlightenment in order to create awareness about the forum for sustainability and engagement of retirees for symbiotic relationships.
He said the invited retirees deserved the esteemed recognition due to their priceless contributions to the growth of Local Government service right from the old Ondo State to Ekiti state.
Chairman planning committee of the get-together, Mr Adeyinka Martins Borisade, appreciated the former senior staff for honouring the invitation, saying their contributions towards the development of Local Government Service commission in Ekiti State was immeasurable.
He noted that the retirees deserved the honour and prayed God to continue sparing their lives to live long in good and sound health.
In his speech, the Chairman on the occasion, Mr Remi Ajidahun appealed to those in service to guide against unhealthy rivalry and promote unity among themselves, saying such would give them edge in the State.
Ekiti State NULGE president, Comrade Oluseyi Olatunde promised that the union would collaborate with Local Government Service Commission to sustain the re-union of retired officers.
He said arrangement was ongoing to produce three permanent secretaries from Local government as against the normal one in practice.
In their goodwill messages, Representatives of the Retired Officers decribed the initiative as a welcome development and commended the brains behind it.
They appealed to Governor Oyebanji to increase the number of permanent secretaries in Local Government service Commission to at least three.
During a health talk, a medical practioner, Mr Gbenga Adeniyi urged the senior citizens to always engage in exercise and manage their stress.
