…supports communities

By Precious Oham

The Ekiti State government has lauded residents that are embarking development projects in their various communities through communal efforts.

The Director General, Office of Community Communications, Mary Omotosho stated this on Sunday in Ado-Ekiti when she conveyed the message of support of Governor Biodun Oyebanji to some of the affected communities.

According to her, Governor Oyebanji extended hands of support to Omi Olori and Oluwole Orungbe communities in Ado-Ekiti, which embarked on self-help development projects of palliative, road construction and dredging of water channels to prevent flooding respectively.

Omotosho reiterated the commitment of the state Governor in ensuring that all his projects were community driven adding that development could not go round at once, hence the need to support the communities.

She implored residents to impact positively to the development of their communities noting that the state Governor is ready to assist and support their efforts.

Her words: “What we did is to grant the request of some communities. The governor has graciously decided to extend the hands of support to Omi Olori and Oluwole Orungbe communities.

“These communities have embarked on self-help development projects. The sought for request from the governor which he personally extended his hands of support to help push forward the palliative measures for this road.

“They shouldn’t all wait for government. They should take it up, then government can support them. One thing is that development cannot go round at once. The governor is actually trying his best to ensure all his projects are community driven.

“I will implore communities to not only wait until government comes in, if they are challenges in their communities, they can pull resources together and take it up. It something to contribute to the development of the community. The governor is impressed by their efforts and is willing to support them.”

Responding on behalf of Omi Olori community, a former chairman of the area, Rev. Akintoye Adeniyi, who appreciated the governor for coming to their aid, decried that past administrations failed to come to their rescue.

According to him; “We have been suffering for quite a long time and we have made several representations to the state government. During the time of Ayodele Fayose, he came here to make promises and when Kayode Fayemi was in office, the Deputy Governor also came here.

“We have been experiencing serious wounds and no way of accessing this area. At the inception of this government, we went back to the governor to appeal to him. We went to the DG, Office of Community Communications. She promised to discuss with the governor and that is why she is here today.

“We are grateful to the governor. He has released certain amount of money to start doing something palliative on the road. We want to appreciate the governor for that.”

Also, a Civil Servant in Oluwole Orungbe community, Olajide Olanrewaju, said: “We appreciate the governor for assisting us. We will use it to do some channeling and broaden it for easy flowing of the water. With this intervention, we will still broaden it. We are aiming for a standard bridge to link everywhere so that we can go anywhere.”
