The Ekiti State government on Wednesday extended its social intervention programmes to the vulnerable and Persons With Disabilities, PWDs, in the state.
The community outreach was carried out in Are-Ekit and Ado-Ekiti through the Office of Community Communications, led by its Director General, Mary Omotosho.
The beneficiaries, including aged women and PWDs were given food items and cash gifts while a 80-year-old Cecilia Ajayi, whose 3-room boys quarters was blown off by the wind will be assisted to reroof the building.
Speaking with journalists after the tour, the DG reiterated that the intervention is part of the humanitarian assistance of the state governor to the vulnerable in the state.
Omotosho noted that the gesture by the state governor is aimed at uplifting the living conditions of the masses, especially the aged people who are helpless and downtrodden.
Her words: “Humanitarian services is what Governor Biodun Oyebanji is know for. His style is humanitarian governance and we give often. We do interventions often and this time around, usually we call people to come to our office, having gone through their request but in the course of our community engagements, we discovered some people who are seriously in need.
“Some made their request and in our findings we found out that they couldn’t come down to the office. So, we have to visit their different homes. The gifts that the governor have for them, we have to bring them down to their doorsteps. We did in Are and Ado-Ekiti.
“For this aged people, they are not working and for the governor, he calls them his parents. Anywhere he goes to, he makes sure that he gives them special treatment. Most of the request that were brought to us are 74, 80 years and above. They are helpless and we have to intervene and stand in the gap for them.
“That’s what the governor is known for and through the office, we reach out to people. We do this often. This is another round for community outreach that we do. We are not even campaigning. It’s part of governance – social intervention programmes are part of governance.”
