Ekiti State governor, Biodun Oyebanji, has promised to support the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, in the state with available resources.

The governor, represented by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Youth and Sports, Mrs Tola Faseluka, made the pledge at the swearing-in ceremony of the 2023 Batch A Stream 1 corps members deployed to the state on Friday at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Ise-Orun/Emure.

Oyebanji said: “Let me seize this opportunity to inform you that Ekiti State government has always recognized excellence and outstanding achievements by corps members.

“On our part, we will continue to support the scheme with available resources. In the area of provision of meal subsidy for the orientation course. Also, to be addressed are the inadequate facilities in the camp including the need for a multipurpose hall for the Orientation camp and other needs will be gradually taken care of.

“As you commence your one-year national service today, I advise you to exhibit the highest level of responsibility, integrity, patriotism, loyalty, dedication, discipline and commitment to the nation.”

On her part, the State Coordinator, NYSC Ekiti State, Mary Chikezie, urged them to be of good conduct during their service year by imbibing the motto of the scheme and slogan of the state.

She noted that as at midnight of Thursday, 26th January, 2023, a total of 871 corps members had completed their registration including 455 males and 416 females.

Chikezie appreciated the Ekiti State governor for his laudable support for the scheme in the state, especially in subsidising meals for corps members in camp.

Her words: “The motto of the National Youth Service Corps Scheme is ‘Service and Humility’ let this be your guiding principle during the orientation course and the service period. Equally, I urge you to at all times imbibe our slogan in Ekiti State which is, ‘if it’s not right, I will not do it.’ These two guiding principles will propel you to have a hitch-free service year.

Forewarned, they day is forearmed; therefore, let me warn, that there is no room for unruly behaviour like the wrong and indiscriminate use of the social media, political affiliations or discussions, cultism, illicit drug usage, gambling, drunkenness and other negative vices in the camp.

“I wish to appreciate His Excellency, Governor Biodun Oyebanji for creating an enabling environment for corps members to live peacefully in Ekiti State.

“We thank His Excellency for your laudable support for the scheme in Ekiti especially for subsidising meals for the last Orientation Course corps members in camp. The Lord will not forget your labour of love and He will reward you and the state. Like Oliver Twist, we appeal to His Excellency to extend the meal subsidy to the ongoing Orientation Course.”
