…sensitizes Nursing Students on symptoms, management of leprosy
Ekiti State Tuberculosis, Leprosy and Buruli Ulcer Control Programme on Wednesday took out time to educate students of the School of Nursing and Midwifery, Ado Ekiti on the symptoms, management and treatments of leprosy.
The programme which was held to commemorate this year’s World Leprosy Day was held in partnership with DAMIEN Foundation Belgium (DFB)
About two hundred student were engaged in the conversation which lasted more than one hour.
With the theme of this year’s celebration: Act Now. End Leprosy’ the programme manager of the Ekiti State Tuberculosis, Leprosy and Buruli Ulcer Control Mr. Adebayo Orojo extensively narrated the origin of leprosy, it’s symptoms and the steps taken so far by government and individuals to end the scourge.
He encouraged the students to take note of the symptoms and report any suspected cases to the necessary authorities for prompt action.
According to him, the fight to end TB and leprosy requires the joint efforts of all urging them to also play their roles as an intending health practitioners.
Mr Orojo dispelled the insinuating that leprosy is spiritual and caused by witches.
He told those with symptoms of TB and leprosy to come out for necessary treatment saying they are curable and the treatment is free.
