Ekiti State Governor, Mr Biodun Oyebanji has commended the management of Federal University, Oye-Ekiti for the remarkable achievements of its researchers and for boosting the State economy with its expansion programme that cut across more than ten communities within the State.
The Governor gave the commendation in Ado Ekiti on Tuesday when he received in audience the management team of the University, led by the Vice Chancellor, Prof Abayomi Fashina. He said the varsity’s expansion is in tandem with his administration’s prosperity agenda.
Oyebanji said he had followed with keen interest the progressive and strategic expansion of the University in some parts of the state and the rapid growth which the university has witnessed within a short period of its establishment.
While commending the management on its ability to attract endowment funds, the Governor described the varsity as a pacesetter to other universities in Nigeria with the quality of scholarship and research grants it has attracted in recent time.
He assured the management of the university that his administration would partner with the institution and continue to give it necessary support.
“FUOYE has continued to blaze the trail and has done so well, I have followed with keen interest the progressive, the expansion and the rise of the university, it is an institution that is deserve to be studied by others in respect to quality schorlaship, research and strategic expansion.
“I keep getting request from communities to give them schools for part-time programmes and that’s something that is very important because any community with a higher institution will surely record a boom in its local economy and that’s in line with our prosperity agenda, what we seek as a government is to ensure that anywhere you live in Ekiti State, you should be able to display your wares, do your trade and be prosperous and that’s what you are doing and so I look forward to collaborations with your institutions”. Tthe Governor said.
In his remarks, the Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Abayomi Fashina said the purpose of the visit was to congratulate the governor on his victory at the Supreme Court which affirmed his election as the governor of Ekiti State and to discuss a possible way to collaborate with the state government.
Fashina said the university is impressed with the Governor’s style of governance and assured him that the University will do everything possible to support his administration.
Also at the meeting were Secretary to the State Government, Dr Habibat Adubiaro, Head of Service, Barrister Bamidele Agbede, Special Adviser on Education, Dr Kofoworola Aderiye, Special Adviser Media, Mr Yinka Oyebode.
